Chaos in the Ring: Phyna Knocks Out Nkechi Blessing as Carter Efe Beats Speed Darlington

Chaos in the Ring Lives Up to Its Name

Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration took an unexpected turn on October 1, 2026, as celebrities stepped into the boxing ring for Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring event at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event featured a mixture of professional boxing and celebrity bouts. Still, much of the attention centred on the highly anticipated clashes involving reality television star Phyna, actress Nkechi Blessing, skit maker Carter Efe, and rapper Speed Darlington.

What happened before the fighters even entered the ring had already generated considerable attention, with heated exchanges, threats, a damaged birthday cake, and even a brief fire at the press conference.

Phyna Knocks Out Nkechi Blessing

One of the biggest highlights of Chaos in the Ring was the celebrity boxing contest between Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, and Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday.

The fight was scheduled for four rounds, following a highly publicised rivalry between the two women.

Phyna eventually secured a knockout victory in the fourth round, making her the winner of what reports described as Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout.

Following her victory, Phyna reportedly received a ₦50 million prize and also indicated that she was interested in pursuing boxing further.

The former Big Brother Naija winner did not stop at celebrating her victory. She subsequently called out actress Etinosa Idemudia, alleging that Etinosa had been disturbing her through direct messages.

Etinosa, who was present at the event, accepted the challenge, adding another possible celebrity boxing rivalry to the conversation.

Carter Efe Defeats Speed Darlington

Another major attraction was the showdown between content creator Carter Efe and rapper Speed Darlington.

The rivalry had already become heated before fight night. At the press conference, both entertainers exchanged provocative remarks about their upcoming contest.

Carter Efe questioned Speed Darlington’s decision to challenge him after Speed’s previous defeat to Portable, while Speed Darlington responded by laying claim to Efe’s celebrity boxing belt.

The tension escalated when a birthday cake presented to Carter Efe was kicked to the ground by Speed Darlington.

Things became even more chaotic when firecrackers reportedly set off by members of Efe’s entourage sparked a brief fire at the venue. The fire was quickly extinguished using fire extinguishers.

When the two eventually met in the ring, however, Carter Efe emerged victorious, extending his unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing series.

Efe had previously defeated Portable by unanimous decision in May 2026 at the same venue.

The Drama Started Before the Bell

Although Chaos in the Ring was ultimately about boxing, the build-up became almost as entertaining as the fights themselves.

The Phyna-Nkechi Blessing rivalry produced heated exchanges during the press conference, with both women making it clear that they intended to settle their differences inside the ring.

The organisers also acknowledged the intensity surrounding the match-ups. Balmoral Promotions CEO Ezekiel Adamu described the rivalry between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing as having become personal, while the Carter Efe-Speed Darlington confrontation added another layer of tension to the event.

The combination of celebrity rivalries, entertainment, and professional boxing helped turn the event into one of the major talking points of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.

Freezy Macbones Wins the Main Event

Away from the celebrity contests, the professional boxing main event featured Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah challenging Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah for the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.

Gyimah defeated Appah by unanimous decision to claim the championship.

Chaos in the Ring Takes Celebrity Boxing to Another Level

The October 1 event demonstrated the growing popularity of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, where entertainment personalities are increasingly combining rivalry, showmanship and sport to attract audiences.

For Phyna, the night ended with a historic knockout victory over Nkechi Blessing. For Carter Efe, it was another celebrity boxing victory, this time against Speed Darlington.

But beyond the results, the heated build-up, confrontations, and unexpected incidents ensured that Chaos in the Ring lived up to its name.

From the press conference drama to the action inside the ring, the event gave fans plenty to discuss long after the final bell.
