NDLEA Enugu Meth Network Bust: Arrests, Lab and Seizures
NDLEA Enugu meth network has been dismantled following an operation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that uncovered a suspected clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Enugu State.
The NDLEA Enugu meth network operation, announced on September 24, 2026, followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by the agency’s Special Operations Unit. Two Nigerian suspects were arrested and arraigned, while other individuals named by the agency remain at large.
According to the NDLEA, the suspected network was operating from Eziama community, Obeagu, in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Two Suspects Arrested
The agency identified the arrested suspects as 45-year-old Chukwu Obumneme Christopher, also known as Brown, and 60-year-old Chukwu Georginus Monday, also known as George.
The NDLEA alleges that the two operated the laboratory in partnership with Rodriguez Villanueva, whom the agency identified as a Mexican cartel member based in Mexico City.
Three other individuals named in the charge reportedly remain at large.
The two arrested suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Enugu and pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Following an application by the NDLEA for an accelerated hearing, the Federal High Court reportedly scheduled the trial for October 21, 2026.
The court proceedings will determine whether the allegations made by the prosecution are established.
Chemicals Recovered From the Laboratory
The NDLEA Enugu meth network investigation led to the reported recovery of large quantities of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
According to the agency, officers recovered 690 litres of methylamine, 1,000 litres of isopropyl alcohol, 300 litres of hydrochloric acid, 290 litres of toluene, 290 litres of acetone and 400 litres of liquid sodium hydroxide.
Other materials reportedly recovered included 125 kilogrammes of N-phenylacetamide, 414 kilogrammes of lead acetate and 769.6 kilogrammes of tartaric acid.
A search of a related residence also reportedly produced eight large fuel tanks, four commercial gas burners, four dehydrators and 11 kilogrammes of ephedrine.
Part of a Wider Crackdown
The NDLEA Enugu meth network case comes amid other NDLEA operations targeting suspected clandestine methamphetamine laboratories across Nigeria.
In 2026, the agency announced operations involving suspected laboratories in Ogun, Oyo and Ebonyi states, including cases involving Mexican nationals whom the agency linked to alleged drug-production networks.
These operations have increased attention on suspected transnational networks and the possibility of clandestine drug production taking place within Nigeria.
NDLEA’s Response
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved in the Enugu operation.
The agency said it would continue intelligence-led operations and international collaboration to disrupt suspected drug trafficking organisations and prevent Nigeria from becoming a base for transnational drug networks.
The investigation into the NDLEA Enugu meth network is expected to continue as authorities pursue suspects who remain at large.
Conclusion
The NDLEA Enugu meth network bust has drawn attention to the agency’s ongoing efforts to tackle clandestine drug production and suspected international trafficking networks in Nigeria.
The discovery of the suspected laboratory, the arrest of two Nigerian suspects, and the seizure of large quantities of chemicals have now placed the alleged network under judicial scrutiny.
The next major development in the case is the court proceeding scheduled for October 21, 2026.
Disclaimer: The arrested suspects pleaded not guilty. The court has not established the allegations against them.
